Chapter 16:Burns of Regret
Kukkai ran to his house, that was yet to burn to ashes.
The door was caved in, so he ran to one of the windows and bashed his hand through it, calling his family members names, he climbed inside and avoided the fire. The sound of crackling fire surrounded him and the sirens and voices outside echoed in his head.
"Kaidou, Shuusui, Unkai, Rento, Mom!" Kukkai calls out as he runs around the house avoiding the fire and looking for his family members. He runs upstairs and finds his eldest brother Kaidou lying on the floor in the hallway,
"Kaidou, Kaidou!" It was no use, he wouldn't get up. Kukkai put his arm over his and tried to drag him out but luckily some firemen, came upstairs and carried him down. Kukkai saw that everyone was out and as he watched Kaidou being lifted onto the strecher he noticed severe burns all over Kaidou's body, before Kukkai could do anything, his brother was put into the ambulance. His mother rushed over,
"You guys meet me at the hospital." She said then looked at Kukkai and saw all the shock in his eyes, she put her hands on Kukkai's shoulders,
"Kukkai, keep focus okay? He's strong remember? ..." tears went down her cheaks, she wiped them and continued, "jeez, you're strong too, you should be telling me this" She gave an unconvincing smile and hopped into the ambulance.
Kukkai and his brothers drive up to the hospital and sit it the waiting room, for results. With Unkai, his third eldest brother next to him Kukkai asked,
"How did the fire start?" There was a small pause, while his brothers were trying hard to think where the fire started and what caused it.
"We don't really know, but i do know, that it started upstairs and when we noticed it was too late it had already spread so fast" Unkai said. Kukkai gritted his teeth,
"I should have stayed home" he thought to himself.
Soon a doctor came out and started to talk to their mother, who was sitting in a chair right next to the door of where Kaidou's operation witheld, the brothers could see them talking along the hallway. When they stopped talking, their mother came down the hallway to her sons. She took a deep breath and said,
"Kaidou is not coming home for a while...the doctor says that his burns are severe and have damaged his skin and...well he's not looking good. He just n-needs time to heal. I have to go sort you boys out for a place to stay for the night, becuase i'll be staying here to look after him."
The next day, around lunch time, time was going on forever as they all waited for his sugeory to finish and the results return once again. They all sat in silence and then suddenly the light above Kaidou's room started flashing violently, before they could react many other people ran inside. The doctors told their mother that its going to be okay, she and the others just need to wait outside.
Soon the Doctor pulled their mum aside, her sons watched as she talked to the doctor. She fell to her knees and broke down crying. All their eyes widened,
"He cant be..." Rento murmured. Kukkai got up,
"no...no...no!" Kukkai yelled in his head as he ran to Kaidou's operation room, he flung around the door and into the room, where the only sound in the room was the flat line on the heart monitor.
